At what time will my child be counted tardy?
Students are expected to be in their classrooms ready for announcements at 7:55. Students entering the building after 7:55 will be considered tardy and will need to stop by the office to get a tardy slip to take to their teacher. Three tardies constitute one absence. This becomes important when figuring perfect attendance.

How early should I bring my child to school?
Students should not arrive at school prior to 7:30 a.m. Students arriving between 7:30 and 7:45 should report to the gymnasium if they are in early childhood, kindergarten, first, second or third grade and to the cafeteria if they are in grades four, five or six. Teachers will be on duty to supervise in these areas. Students arriving after 7:45 should go directly to their classrooms.

Should I walk my child to his or her classroom?
This usually makes children feel more secure, especially on the first day of school. However, children will soon want to have the privilege of coming into the building on their own to go either to the gym, cafeteria, or their classrooms.  Older students and teachers will be on duty to assist any students who may be confused.

K through 2nd
Students should be dropped off on the South side of the building. Cars should enter the parking lot at the first entrance on Newport Drive (by the playground).

Day Care and busses will be on the North side of the Building.
In addition, the following procedures should be followed:

Students are to be dropped off and picked up at the curb only. Please pull forward as far as possible before stopping to unload students.

Students will not be allowed to cross any lanes of traffic to enter or exit the building unless accompanied by an adult.

Adults and students should cross only at the crosswalks.

No vehicles in the drop-off/pick-up lane next to the curb should be unattended. This lane is a no-parking zone. Please park in the marked spaces only.

School personnel and older students will be assisting students into the building and ensuring that these procedures are followed. Your cooperation is appreciated!

How do I pay for lunches for my child?
The price of a plate lunch, including milk, is $1.80. Students have several choices of meats and vegetables in Norton’s unique, food court-style, cafeteria. Snacks such as cookies, ice cream, chips and fresh fruits may be purchased separately at a cost of $.25 to $.70 depending on the item. Norton’s cafeteria features a computerized cashier and accounting system an operates on a no-cash basis during lunch. The minimum payment of $18.00 (10 lunches) is needed to open your child’s account. A Super Saver Discount is available, featuring one free lunch with a deposit of $50.00 or more.

Checks should be payable to Norton Elementary and include the child’s full name, grade and teacher and brought in an envelope to the cafeteria before school each morning from 7:30 to 7:50.

This year there is a new online option at www.pamslunchroom.com that allows you to pay online for a small convenience fee!
